See Ropes at the RNCM on Wednesday 12th October 2016.
Commissioned by Manchester Jazz Festival along with funds from Arts Council England and PRS for Music Foundation in 2008, Mike's 'Ropes' project featured a 22 piece string orchestra alongside a specially assembled jazz quintet. Featuring a newly composed suite alongside Mike's original compositions, Ropes became firmly established as an invaluable work in the jazz/classical canon, with its premiere receiving a standing ovation from a capacity crowd at the Royal Northern College of Music. This performance was broadcast by BBC Radio 3 on the 'Jazz on 3' programme.
Mike will record 'Ropes' as an album in 2015 with Psappha Strings, featuring UK musicians Iain Dixon, Les Chisnall and Gwilym Simcock, alongside US musicians, Adam Nussbaum and Steve Rodby. Mike is very grateful to be supported by PRS for Music Foundation, Deanclough and all the Crowdfunder donators in this album recording.
Words of support for Ropes
'Mike is a unique talent and one of the very best on a worldwide level. I was thrilled to be a part of this project and would love to see this documented so others can share in its beauty and grace'. - Adam Nussbaum
'It is imperative that this incredible artist, musician and human being is given all the support he needs in this large scale work - Ropes.' - Iain Dixon
'Ropes is an inspired and vital piece of work ... simply wonderful and enriching music. It fully deserves to be made available to a much larger audience than the privileged few who were lucky enough to catch the single concert performance of the work at the RNCM in 2008.' - Bass Line Audio
Thank you to everyone who donated to Mike's Crowdfunder page.
